Avoca Valley Stream Restoration

As part of a long-term Avoca Valley restoration project, the CWP has funded thousands of podocarps and mānuka to be planted alongside Avoca Valley Stream to enhance its health and repair eroding banks.

Living Springs

Living Springs Environmental DNA Monitoring

Ecological monitoring will be carried out in three streams flowing through Living Springs and into Whakaraupō-Lyttelton Harbour to help inform restoration efforts to protect the mauri of the waterways.

24/7 Central City Stormwater Education

Ōtākaro Orchard is celebrating its blue-green roof, swale and stormwater retention systems. New signage will educate visitors about these features, their connection to river health, and how they can integrate similar things in their own homes.

Huritini-Halswell River Citizen Science Project

Participants of this community-led project will be trained to gather monthly data from the river over a two-year period to help in understanding the river's health, contribute to a global database and support conservation efforts.

Ōtākaro-Avon In-River Clean Up

The In-River Litter Clean Up Project is a hands-on initiative to remove litter from the Avon River. Rubbish is collected by boat, and community and school volunteers weigh and catalogue the collected rubbish, providing valuable data around litter sources.

Nature Agents – Ngā Kaitaunaki Taiao is an education programme provided through EOS Ecology that turns local waterways into living classrooms. They undertake hands-on investigations and then contribute their findings to an ArcGIS hub.

Wheelie Bin Latch Trial

Windy days send bins toppling over and send rubbish into our waterways. Our partner OHRN trialled latches to keep lids in place and rubbish out of our rivers. These are now available for purchase at a reduced cost through the Christchurch City Council.
